Who are 3 Mobile

In May 2000 the UK government awarded five licences to run 3G wireless services. The biggest license was set aside for a new entrant, in order to increase fair competition in the UK marketplace. Hutchison 3G (now knows as 3) were granted this licence. 3 Mobile was launched in the UK in March 2003, they are the UK's only exclusively 3G network and the first to launch video calling. 3 Mobile undertook the fastest network roll-out in UK history, meeting their licence regulatory requirements three years ahead of deadline. Due to gaps in the UKs 3G network 3 Mobile have a roaming agreement with Orange to fill these in with 2G connectivity at no extra cost to the consumer and without interruption to calls in progress. By the end of 2005, 3 Mobile had almost 4 million customers on its UK network - this is more 3G subscribers than all the other networks put together. 3 Mobile gained first prize for best 3G network and best mobile internet service at the Mobile Choice 2006 Awards.
