Orange entered the UK marketplace in 1994 as the fourth mobile phone network provider. They offered a more personalised service than their competitors which saw them doubling their customers base one year later and hitting the one million mark in 1997. In June of 1999 Orange Mobile won the Nat West/ Sunday Times Business Enterprise Award, this described Orange as "one of the outstanding business success stories of the past few years" and their story as a "courageous vision and commitment to the long-running potential of mobile telecoms". Orange is now owned by France Telecom and has headquarters across Europe.
Orange offer two types of plan - pay monthly and pay as you go. Pay monthly plans come in three tiers - 12 month contracts, 18 months (with over 50% more calls and texts than 12 month) and 24 month (with up to 50% more free calls and texts than 18 month). In addition to the various monthly plans Orange also offer a bonus service known as unlimited giving customers either uncapped calls to landlines, calls to other Orange mobiles, or texts at certain times only, depending on the plan they choose. On Orange pay as you go, you get flat rate calls and can choose from free texts, bonus credit back or Magic Numbers - free calls to people of your choice. Orange World is the name given to Orange Mobile's online content portal and here you will find the same 3G content as the other mobile providers including internet, email and all manner of downloads. Unlimited weekend and evening web surfing is charged at a fixed rate on monthly contracts and a daily fixed rate on pay as you go. In addition to mobile phones Orange offer stand-alone PC Internet access using either dial-up or broadband connections. Furthermore it will come out cheaper if you bundle PC broadband Internet access with a mobile phone contract.
