T-Mobile is a German company based in Bonn, Germany. It is the world's sixth largest mobile phone network provider with 91 million subscribers worldwide and almost 17 million in the UK. T-Mobile was previously known as One 2 One and have moved up in the ranking from fourth to become the UKs second largest mobile network operator just behind 02. T-Mobile are trailblazers in the area of wireless Internet connectivity, having first launched the 3G UMTS Internet service in autumn 2003. T-Mobile boasts the worlds largest Wi-Fi (wireless Internet) network in the world with 21,000 Hot-Spots worldwide and 1,000 in the UK alone. T-mobile Flext was voted Tariff of the Year at Mobile Choice Magazine´s Consumer Awards 2006.
T-Mobile offer 3 types of monthly contract, the first Flext, their flagship product, is designed to allow customers to compile their own tariff plan of inclusive minutes and texts. Web n Walk is a monthly add-on which gives unlimited access to the Internet from your mobile handset with a Web n Walk Plus option which allows you to connect to the internet from your PC using your mobile phone as a modem. With the right bluetooth connections this can even be done wirelessly. The third monthly plan is a budget off-peak plan, designed to take advantage of cheap weekend and evening rates. T-Mobile also offer pay as you go plans with special Mates Rates to make mobile calls to your friends that bit cheaper. T-Mobile's U-Fixt plan is a third idea in the grand scheme of payment plans, it combines a cheap monthly contract with the ability to top up when necessary with all calls charged at the same standard rate - ideal for those on a budget who need to control their spending. For laptop users T-Mobile offer a wireless LAN card (that easily plugs into your laptop) with a monthly subscription allowing unlimited web-surfing and email access. It connects to the Internet via the 3G UMTS connection, or if that's not available where you are it defaults back to the slower 2G GPRS. This really is a fantastic service as it allows you to connect to the Internet from virtually anywhere in the UK and often at fairly high speeds. T-Zones is T-Mobile's 3G Internet portal offering the usual mix of information and entertainment, access is charged per kb of data viewed while browsing - this is free if your are on a Web n Walk plan. Downloads are charged per item and this is always clearly marked.
