Who are Virgin Mobile

Virgin Mobile UK is a subsidiary of Virgin Media, a company recently formed by the recent merger of two Telecommunication multinationals - NTL and Telewest. Virgin Mobile, started in 1999 is actually the world's first virtual mobile phone service provider (VMNO), meaning that they do not run their own physical cellular network but actually lease space from someone else - in this case they use T-Mobile´s infrastructure. Virgin Media itself is a powerhouse of a company and the acquisition of Virgin Mobile, finally completed in 2007 creates the first UK company able to offer quadruple play to customers. Quadruple play means four services bundled under one provider and a single contract - mobile and fixed line telephone services plus broadband internet and television, putting it in an unrivalled position in the communications industry. Virgin Mobile have 4 million users in the UK and were awarded first place for Customer Service in Mobile Choice Magazine´s 2006 Consumer Awards.

Virgin Mobile Services

Virgin offer both pay as you go and pay monthly tariffs at very reasonable prices. They have a wide range of tariffs on pay monthly and each tariff has a specific range of phones assigned to it from which you can choose. Interestingly enough they only tie you into a 12 month contract at the end of which your monthly bill drops substantially (by around 25%) should you keep subscribing. Virgin Mobile's pay as you go option boasts a huge selection of handsets ranging from under £25 to almost £350. Regardless of value, all Virgin mobile phones come with free minutes and what's more you can buy monthly bundles on pay as you go that give you inclusive minutes and texts without having to be on a contract. If you sign up to Virgin Media you can choose any amount of their quadruple-play services at £10 each - fixed line telephone, broadband internet and Virgin TV all come through cable, while for the mobile phone option you are supplied with a Virgin SIM card. Virgin Bites is the name given to virgin Mobile's 3G mobile content. Browsing the Virgin mobile internet network is charged at a flat daily rate, browsing outside that network is charged by KB of data viewed and of course downloads are charged per item.
